先日の東秩父では彼岸花が咲く土手に胡桃の木もあり、たくさんの実が下がっていました。
子年（2020年）のカレンダーの表紙に困り、ネズミ→バレーのくるみ割り人形という姉の発案で、2019年の9月中旬に慌てて津南の親戚宅まで胡桃をもらいに行ったことを懐かしく思い出しました。
秋の短い雪国ではもうくるみは終わりだよなどと言われつつ、信濃川沿いにある大きな鬼くるみの木に残っていた胡桃を一枝切らせてもらい拓画することができました。
この子もカレンダーにはなったけれど作品は家で飾ったことしかないので、どこかで見ていただけたらいいですね。

My sister’s idea was to make a nutcracker from mouse to ballet for the cover of the calendar for the Year of the Rat (2020), and I fondly remember rushing to a relative’s house in Tsunan in mid-September of 2019 to get some walnuts.
My mother’s cousin told me that walnuts were already finished in snow country where autumn is short, but I was able to cut a branch from a large devil’s walnut tree along the Shinano River to make a takuga.
